Looking Back One Year Later
After nearing the first year of marriage, we asked Lucas and Kelly Martin to share their insight on marriage, wedding planning, and their wedding at The Venues at Langtree.
Marriage
Upon reflecting on their first year of marriage, Kelly and Lucas shared what they learned in their first year of marriage, as well as offered advice to other couples navigating their first year of marriage. Kelly advises couples to “take it easy” during their first year of marriage. The first year of marriage is a time where couples navigate a new reality together. It’s important to take time to enjoy it! Effective communication was important in all aspects of their relationship over this past year. Kelly says “trying to understand each other’s differences” is important to solving problems head-on.
Kelly and Lucas met at a party in college where they didn’t exactly hit it off. They later learned they would not only be living in the same hall but would share a wall. Kelly recalls, “[Lucas] would knock on the wall every night to see if I was there.” Their friendship quickly blossomed and the rest is history!.
For Kelly and Lucas, the best part of being married is that “you’re with your best friend, you know you’ve found your person.” You have a secure bond to your best friend, forever. Marriage has given them the security to take on life together, lean on each other during tough times and cherish good times.
Wedding Planning
Wedding planning is stressful, time-consuming, and demands effort. Lucas and Kelly agree that wedding planning was more intense than they initially thought. Keeping organized during the wedding planning process can be difficult. Kelly and Lucas encourage hiring a wedding planner if possible. Kelly also stressed utilizing a checklist and timeline to help stay organized. When beginning the wedding planning process, couples may feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to begin. To stay on top of planning, Kelly and Lucas suggest starting as soon as possible. Most importantly, Kelly said she wants to remind brides that “if something doesn’t go your way, it’s okay!” On your big day, “all you’re going to focus on is you and where you are at… and all the little details are just completely irrelevant.” It can be hard to not stress over the details, but Kelly encourages couples to focus on the bigger picture.
While wedding planning may be stressful, it is also an exhilarating time. There are many exciting things in the wedding planning process, such as picking the venue, planning decorations, and finding the perfect wedding dress. Kelly’s favorite part of wedding planning was picking out the venue because it was their first step. Selecting the venue was what sparked the realization that they were embarking on the journey to getting married. After selecting the Venues at Langtree, Kelly and Lucas “saw the vision of it” and “it all kind of came together.” Using that excitement as momentum, they were able to get through all the planning, including invitations, which Kelly says are “the worst!”
The big day is when all the hard work turns into one of the most memorable days. Kelly and Lucas had a special moment from their wedding day that they continue to cherish. The favorite part of their wedding day was when they were able to have a private dance to their wedding song at the end of the night. “At the end of the night, while they were setting everyone up to do sparklers,” Kelly explained, “the band played our song one more time for us to dance alone in the venue.” Setting that private time apart to celebrate their unity was “definitely, definitely both of our favorite parts.”
The Venues at Langtree
Kelly and Lucas’s big day was at beautiful The Venues at Langtree. The couple loved having their ceremony at The Venues. They sought a rustic barn feel for their wedding and reception and Langtree’s beautiful grounds offered what they needed to make their vision a reality. Moreover, they loved how multiple amenities were included on the property. Between the Mott house for getting ready, the barn for holding the ceremony, the pavilion for the reception, and the picturesque grounds, everything they needed and wanted was included at the Venues. The Venues at Langtree had a great centralized location with gorgeous scenery to amplify their big day. The couple would “100%” recommend the Venues at Langtree to others for events, weddings, and meetings.
When asked to advise couples wanting to hold their wedding at The Venues, Kelly emphasized that couples should plan their event around sunset as “having those sunset photos on Langtree were gorgeous.” Utilizing the trolly to shuttle friends and family also made their day much smoother. They encourage anyone holding their event at The Venues to make use of the trolly. The couple found that The Venues staff was very accommodating during their planning process to ensure that their day was everything they wanted. She also stressed how the staff at The Venues were “super accommodating” to all of the “details and decorations.” The couple was appreciative of how The Venues “worked with them on everything” and expressed that “everyone there is just so nice.”
Their favorite part about having their wedding at The Venues at Langtree was the gorgeous scenery, having everything right on the property, and the willing spirit of the staff.
Congrats to Kelly and Lucas on their first year of marriage!
